Payzone UK signs contract with Anglian Water to provide utility payment services

Archived article dated Monday February 11th 2008

Payzone has signed a contract with Anglian Water to provide water bill payment services to 2.5 million customers.

The contract, which will be deployed in conjunction with Alliance & Leicester, will enable customers to pay bar-coded bills or make regular payments at 17,000 Payzone retailers located in the UK. The Company expects to process in the region of three million water bill transactions in the first 12 months.

In urban areas, most consumers are within one mile of their nearest Payzone outlet, with wide coverage in rural areas. The network also offers extended accessibility as most of the Payzone outlets have longer opening hours, including weekends, with some open 24/7. It will also mean greater choice of locations for payers as the Payzone network includes newsagents, convenience stores and petrol stations. Paul Charmatz, Managing Director of Payzone UK, said “This agreement to provide water bill payment services broadens the services offered to consumers and retailers. We are delighted to be working with Anglian Water and Hartlepool Water. “

Martyn Oakley, Customer Service Director of Anglian Water and Hartlepool Water, said “We want to be able to offer our customers a convenient solution for paying their bills at a time and place that suits them. The new service will be free for all our customers who prefer to pay in person whilst visiting their local Payzone convenience store”
